From Greek chrysos (gold) and elephantinos (ivory), Chryselephantine is the technical term given to a type of cult statue that enjoyed high status in Ancient Greece which again became popular between 1925-1935 in the form of combined bronze, ivory and marbel statuettes!
These statuettes were first produced in ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia and Crete. Chryselephantine statues were made in Greece from the 6th Century BC.
